Auctions: The 2026 Geneva Fall Auctions Mega-Preview, Part 2 — Phillips, Sotheby's, And Marteau & Co.
By Mark Kauzlarich
Mark Kauzlarich of Hodinkee walks through the Phillips and Sotheby's Geneva sales, with Marteau & Co.'s blue-themed auction closing on November 6, and covers roughly 1200 watches across the four sales. Phillips's top lot is a steel Patek Philippe ref. 1436 with an estimate starting at CHF 2,000,000, a figure Kauzlarich calls conservative for a watch that achieved over CHF 3,000,000 at Phillips in 2015. Other Phillips highlights include a fresh-to-market Rolex ref. 6062 'Stelline' in yellow gold, an F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance 'Régence', and a group of vintage Rolex chronographs from Pucci Papaleo. At Sotheby's, Kauzlarich singles out a Patek Philippe ref. 3970 with an estimate of CHF 1,000,000 to 3,000,000 and a Rolex ref. 6032 antimagnetic chronograph as compelling options. Kauzlarich also argues that early independent watches and pocket watches, such as the Richard Miklosch flying tourbillon, are likely to keep rising in value.
- Open question: The Patek Philippe ref. 1436 estimate starting at CHF 2,000,000 looks conservative
- Liked: Early Philippe Dufour Simplicities will rise in value
- Disliked: Recent limited editions such as the Daniel Roth Extra Plat and Legacy Machine Split Escapement are priced higher than they should be
