G-SHOCK Celebrates Streetwear Culture in a New Collaboration with UNION
By Elodie Townsend
G-SHOCK releases the DW-5600RGB in collaboration with UNION, the streetwear brand and store that started in SoHo, New York, in 1989. The model is based on the DW-5600, one of G-SHOCK's most classically styled watches, with a rectangular LCD showing the date, day of the week, alarm setting and time. UNION's design uses a color scheme inspired by the Pan-African flag, with red and green accents printed over a black base that also covers the display. The UNION Frontman logo appears on the LCD when lit and on the caseback. Elodie Townsend of Worn & Wound sees the collaboration as a natural fit between G-SHOCK's rugged, affordable image and streetwear culture, and expects it to sell well given the $165 price and special packaging.
