Hands-On: The Arnold & Son DSTB Stop-Seconds

By TanTan Wang

Verdict: positive

TanTan Wang of Hodinkee goes hands-on with the Arnold & Son DSTB Stop-Seconds, two limited editions of 18 pieces each in 5N red gold and platinum. Arnold & Son adds hacking functionality to the deadbeat seconds mechanism, which Wang sees as a welcome change for a watch that puts so much emphasis on the seconds hand. The DSTB's A&S6303 in-house movement, with its 55-hour power reserve and Côtes de Genève finishing, sits in a 42 mm case that wears large on the wrist. Wang finds the anchor-shaped lever a little too graphical and wishes the white opal subdial carried minute markings. Wang concludes that the two models are more compelling than ever for collectors seeking a well-finished deadbeat seconds watch.

  • Liked: Hacking functionality added to the deadbeat seconds
  • Disliked: Anchor-shaped lever feels too graphical for the dial
  • Disliked: White opal subdial lacks minute markings
  • Liked: Large case size is not a drawback given the dial layout
